Forecast Discussion:
The monsoon will calm down a bit for the next few days and thunderstorm chances for central Arizona will greatly diminish. However, the heat is forecast to return, with daytime temperatures approaching 110°F. The National Weather Service has an Extreme Heat Warning out for Thursday through Monday. The monsoon may make a comeback by the weekend.
Air quality-wise, the main pollutant of interest this week will be ozone. A sunnier and more stagnant weather pattern will be favorable for the formation and build-up of ozone in the Valley. Ozone is forecast in the Moderate AQI category through the week.
As for PM10 (dust) and PM2.5 (smoke), both of these air pollutants will remain mostly locally driven for now. But, blowing dust may be possible again later Saturday, depending on storm activity around the area.
