Revised On: May. 10th, 2026 - 11:53 am
Celebrate Air Quality Awareness Week on May 1 with Hands-On Learning, Prizes, and Science Center Passes

PHOENIX (April 16, 2026) — The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is kicking off Clean Air Month by inviting the public to turn environmental education into an adventure. In partnership with the Arizona Science Center, ADEQ will host the second annual Become Air Aware event on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Designed for families, students, and eco-conscious citizens, the event transforms air quality science into an interactive experience. Participants will receive an Air Quality Passport to guide them through various educational stations, uncovering the science behind the air we breathe and discovering simple ways to protect our health.

Event Highlights:

  • Air Quality Pledge: Join fellow Arizonans in committing to small daily changes that lead to cleaner air.
  • Air Quality Passport: Complete the journey through interactive booths to earn a spot at the Prize Wheel.
  • Science Center Experience: Each ticket purchased for May 1 includes ADEQ event access plus:
    • One Evans Family SkyCycle ride
    • One MiniShop experience
    • One screening in the Dorrance DOME
    • One film in the Irene P. Flinn Giant Screen Theater

Air quality affects every Arizonan, and we believe education is the first step toward collective action, said ADEQ Air Quality Division Director Daniel Czecholinski. By partnering with the Arizona Science Center, we’re making the science of clean air accessible, engaging, and—most importantly—fun for the next generation of environmental stewards.
