Advanced Water Purification (AWP) Implementation Update Rulemaking

Revised On: Sep. 11th, 2026 - 06:57 am

Summary:

The AWP program (18 A.A.C. 9, Article 8), effective in March 2025, establishes robust regulations for the review, approval, and operation of advanced water treatment facilities (AWTFs), which purify treated wastewater for drinking water use. Through early discussions with prospective applicants, ADEQ has identified an opportunity to enhance program implementation and effectiveness, while still maintaining appropriate protective standards. The AWP Implementation Update Rulemaking will streamline and clarify a limited number of existing rules to meet this objective.
